Pulsed Electric Field food processing systems (PEF)
How does PEF work
Elea is the world's leading supplier of Pulsed Electric Fields (PEF) systems for the food, beverage and scientific sectors.
PEF works by using electrical impulses to puncture the cell membrane of each individual cell in organic products to achieve a number of benefits. An open cell structure makes a wide range of products easier to process and in some cases allows a product to be processed less to achieve the same properties as traditional methods. For example, PEF can be used to deactivate batteries at low temperatures for products that previously required a higher heat treatment to achieve the same lifetime. Lower temperatures typically mean a better taste, color, texture, etc. Another application for PEF is products where you want to extract some ingredients, such as oil from olives or flavor, color etc. from grapes for wine production.
Advantage BELT™
ELEA Advantage BELT™ Pulse Electric Fields system, for use when processing solid products such as fruits and vegetables. The technology has proven highly beneficial for processing potatoes for chips or French fries production, with the majority of the more than 125 systems sold in this product type.
The series of machines for processing solid products; B1, B10, B100 and B1000, have capacities from 1 - 60 tons per hour. The product is forced under water (used as conductivity) and a conveyor belt transports it between electrodes that provide electrical impulses.
Depending on the product type, a number of different benefits can be achieved. Some of these benefits can be seen in the illustration to the right - please contact us for further information about which benefits are available and proven within the different product types.
Advantage PIPE™
ELEA Advantage PIPE™ Pulse Electric Fields technology, for use when processing liquid or semi-liquid products such as juices, dairy products, wine, olive oil and more.
The series of liquid processing machines; P1, P10, P100 and P1000, have capacities from 50 - 10,000 liters per hour. The product is pumped through a tube with electrodes on each side where electrical pulses are sent through.
Depending on the product type, a number of different benefits can be achieved. Some of these benefits can be seen in the illustration to the right - please contact us for further information about which benefits are available and proven within the different product types.
